CATFISH
The first time you hook one you'll think you've snagged the bottom, literally. But when the bottom begins to swim away and you realized you are joined at the hip with a 30 lb., 40 lb., 50 lb. or even larger catfish, you might wonder if this is really fun.

Trust me ... it is!

Once the most maligned fish in Southern waters, trophy catfishing is the "new wave" on the Tennessee River. Monster blue cats, golden channel cats and fiercesome flatheads rule the roost in area waters.

Blue cats in the 100-pound class are there. The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency has passed new regulations to encourage even more trophy catfish, restricting anglers to no more than one 34-inch catfish per day. But if you care more about the numbers game, we've got plenty of measly 5-pounders as well.

Like every freshwater fish, the big cats go on the prowl in early Spring. Unlike other species however, they don't sull up when the water and the weather heats up. Catfishing is a 12-month sport and Scenic City Fishing Charters is waiting to take you there.

CRAPPIE PAGE

If you've got a youngster, or want to fill the freezer with fish filets, or both ... book a weekend date in late January, February, March or early April.

In recent years crappie fishing on Chickamauga Lake has blossomed right along with the red bud trees.

NO FISHING EXPERIENCE NEEDED.

At Scenic City Fishing Charters we like to relax while we crappie fish. If you know where to do it, trolling is easy and amazingly productive. No casting, hanging up in brush piles or buying bait, Just dress warm, sit back with your favorite beverage, carpet the water with jigs and reel 'em in. Let us show you how... just call 423-894-3684 or e-mail to book your date.

BLUEGILL

Whether you are an old-time angler who want to return to his roots, or a fledgling fisherman who want to learn the ropes... bluegill are what you want.

Chickamauga Lake harbors exceptional bluegill fishing along with good numbers of big shellcrackers. You can catch them all year long, but the hot season starts in April, peaks in May, and continues into June. Catches of 100 or more aren't unusual. If you've got a flyrod, bring it.

SMALLMOUTH

Several years ago area bass anglers saw the potential and actually lobbied the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency to manage the Tennessee River near Chattanooga for trophy smallmouth bass. Anglers are allowed to only keep one smallmouth per day, 18-inches or longer. It won't compare to a Dale Hollow or Pickwick, but the folks "in the know" recognize that there are plenty of trophy bronzebacks to be had on the doorstep of the Tennessee Aquarium.

Don't expect "fast and furious," but if you are a dedicated smallmouth addict who lives for the freight train thrill that only "brown fish" can provide, we'll do our best to put you on 'em.

LARGEMOUTH

It's the most popular freshwater fish on the face of the earth and yea, we've got 'em.

The bass fishing on Chickamauga Lake once attracted the famous Bassmaster Classic stable of angler to ply area waters. The bass fishing fell off in the early 1990's when the aquatic vegetation disappeared. But visit the weigh-ins of the numerous bass tournaments these days and fishermen will tell you the recovery has been strong.

Just a few minutes downstream lies Nickajack Lake where aquatic vegetation still thrives. Whatever your preferred style of bass-angling, we'll take you there.
