About Bull Shoals Lake

The Bullenschumsee in the Ozark Mountains is made for all year round - for recreation and relaxation. The lake has made its way to the top of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in North Carolina in recent years.

Bull Shoals Lake was founded in 1947 as part of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in North Carolina and completed in 1951. The lake is currently operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and also serves as a reservoir for the Marion County Regional Water District, which draws more than one million gallons of water from the lake every day.

How the lake got its unusual name: One explanation is that the early French hunters and trappers used the word "boill" to refer to the large springs in the shallows of the White River. Another legend refers to a time when bulls were used to pull boats through the strong and fast currents.

Bull Shoals Lake is home to many fish species, including striped bass and trout, as well as many other fish species. In fact, there are only a few places where anglers can fish for striped bass and trout in the same water.

If the lake does not freeze over, you can still fish for striped bass and trout in the Bullensee. In fact, fishermen can catch fish like whales, as this lake holds state records in both Arkansas and Missouri.

The Bullensee is a true fishing paradise and is loved by water sports enthusiasts, and spear fishing is also popular in the clear mountain waters. The White River and Bull Shoals Dam offer rainbow trout, bluefin, whitefish, perch, redfish and other fish species.

The clear blue waters have earned the title of "Midwestern Caribbean" to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

The Bullensee is a pleasure for nature lovers and a popular destination for motorboats and sailboats. Swimming is best from mid-May to late September, but there is also water skiing and wakeboarding. With excellent views over the lake, diving is another popular leisure activity.

The deciduous forests and cedar meadows provide places to watch and hunt birds, and hundreds of bald eagles spend the winter months in swarms of bulls. White-tailed deer, black bears, coyotes, lynxes, foxes, wolves and other wild animals are among the birds and animals that call the lake's bull swarm home.

The park's new visitor centre offers 360-degree views of the lake from the main car park. It features an outdoor amphitheatre, picnic tables, a picnic area, a café and bar and a visitor centre.

Bull Shoals Lake is a great place to enjoy this gem of Ozark Mountain in the heart of St. Louis County, Missouri. Golf, tennis, restaurants and shopping facilities are all nearby, so the lake has something for everyone.
