About Lake Blackshear

Lake Blackshear, located in Crisp County, Georgia, USA, north of Atlanta, is a sports paradise for residents and visitors alike. The lake was created by damming the Flint River to provide low-cost energy to the citizens of Crist County in Georgia. Black Shear Lake is one of the largest lakes in the USA and the second largest in North America. It is the first county in the country to own and operate its own power station and is home to a range of water sports including kayaking, canoeing, fishing and swimming.

Since its inception, Blackshear Lake has become one of the most popular destinations for water sports and anglers in the country.

Waterskiers and boaters roam the water while fishermen fish for photos under perfectly moss-draped trees. Many full-time and weekend homes are on the shore, but water sports or anglers need look no further.

At Lake Blackshear lies the U.S. Veterans Memorial Park, which was built as a memorial to all veterans of the United States who served, fought and died for our freedom. The park houses a museum, an amphitheatre, a swimming pool, a picnic area and an outdoor leisure area.

Although Black Shear Lake is normally located as a lake in southwest Georgia, several species of wild fish can be found in the lake. These include the black-scissor trout, the black-scissor catfish, the white-breasted trout and the blue-eyed trout. Also a number of other types like the black-perch, redfish and blueperch are among them.

Every year, a national perch fishing tournament is held on the lake, bringing together participants from all over the nation. An impressive crowd is taking part in the annual Black Shear Lake Perch Fishing tournament, one of the largest and most prestigious fishing tournaments in Georgia.

For hunting lovers, there are numerous plantations in the area where you can hunt fine quails, deer, turkeys and pigeons. If you want to turn off, get in your car and visit the Black Shear National Wildlife Refuge, one of the largest wildlife refuges in Georgia.

You will also want to participate in a fishing tournament on the lake, as well as in the annual perch fishing tournaments.

Blackshear Lake is one of the most beautiful nature observation sites in Georgia and is ideal for nature lovers, hikers, birdwatchers, kayakers and bird lovers.

Those who want to make their stay permanent can join the others who have made the journey to see what Schwarzscherer has seen in his second home. Half the house is actually best discovered in secret - by the buyer, but half of it is for you.
