About Evergreen Lake

When the growing city needed an additional water supply in 1971, Six Mile Creek was dammed to create a new Evergreen Lake.

The dam was enlarged in 1995 when it needed to store more water, but one of the best kept secrets is that it is located north of Bloomington in the evergreen Lake Ever Green Lake, Illinois.

In its 40 years of existence, Evergreen Lake has become one of the most popular camping destinations in the state of Illinois. The resulting 900 hectare reservoir was crowned the largest freshwater lake in the world and offers recreational opportunities for everyone. Fishing is a popular activity with record participation - fish are regularly caught on a line.

The beautiful Comlara County Park offers a wealth of recreational activities for energetic young adults. ComLara County Park covers an area of 1.5 million square feet, with a total area of 2,000 acres of open space.

The fishermen surveyed have repeatedly claimed that Evergreen is their most productive lake, regularly stocked with a large variety of fish, birds and other wildlife.

The lake has a 10 hp limit for boat engines and the Comlara Park makes fishing particularly easy, but musk perches and Valais have been pulled out of the water in recent years. The carp regularly produce archers and it has been discussed that commercial fishing for carp will be expanded in the future to reduce their numbers.

There are no moorings on the lake, but it is a great place for ice fishing, as several arms of the bay are circular, with a large bay on one side and a small bay on the other.

The park also rents rowing boats, but registration is required for all boats, including those with sailing boards. Registration is at the parking lot on the north side of Evergreen Lake, south of the lake shore.

Visitors can enjoy water skiing and watercraft (except low horsepower limits) on the lakeside, as well as fishing and boating. The bait shop is also open in the summer months, and several fishing piers allow fishing from the shore.

Next to the fully equipped campsite is Glasener Beach, which offers views of Evergreen Lake, Lake Michigan Lake and the shoreline, as well as a variety of scenic views from the beach. There are also a variety of camping facilities available, such as campsites, cabins, campers and even a small boat park.

A 20 km long hiking trail is also suitable for mountain bikers, but reservations are recommended due to the popularity of campsites on summer weekends. In the park there is a bicycle rental, where bicycles are available, as well as a bicycle parking.

Wildlife is rich and the park is a popular place for photographers, and McLean County Parks and Recreation works with outside organizations to improve access to a wide range of species, including a waterfowl nesting program and Blue Birdhouses. The management of Comlara Park maintains a large number of protected areas in the Evergreen Lake area, including the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and Lake of the Woods National Wildlife Refuge.

For those looking for more variety during a week - a long camping stay - nearby Bloomington's regular hotels offer plenty of entertainment. The daredevil will find a number of nightclubs and entertainment facilities that are very attractive to young adults.
