About Lake Wawasee

If you love the countryside and relaxation, you will be attracted by the 3000 hectares of blue and green water. The rolling hills of Amish Country lie beneath the beautiful blue waters of Lake Wawa, a popular tourist destination in Indiana, USA.

The region is located in Kosciusko County and has a colorful and diverse history that attracts visitors from Chicago to Indianapolis. Lake Wawasee has long been one of the most popular tourist destinations in Indiana, USA and the second largest lake in the United States.

Originally settled by Indians, the lake was named after the chief of Miami's Wawasee, and the first white settlers arrived in the city of Syracuse in 1826.

Today, the community of about 3,000 people rests on the shores of Lake Wawa, one of the largest freshwater lakes in the United States. Syracuse is a welcoming place to start your visit to LakeWawa with a trip to the Wawasee Indian Reservation, a popular tourist attraction.

Lake Wawa, which was dug during the last ice age in America, can reach heights of over 1,000 feet and is now fed by Turkey's Dillon Creek. The same glaciation is responsible for the different depths of the lake, but today it is the largest freshwater lake in the country.

The dam of the Indiana Department of Natural Resources holds the lake at 859 feet and offers a maximum depth of 77 feet, with an average depth of 22 feet. Efforts have been made to protect the watershed, where herons, eagles and falcons live. The triangle for fish and wildlife was established in the late 1990s to protect the 3,486 hectares of the watershed from further development and agriculture. It has also led to the development of the largest freshwater lake of its kind in North America and the second largest in Europe.

A 2005 fisheries survey of Lake Wawa recorded 28 species, and the frequency was rated as one of the highest in the United States, behind only the Great Lakes. If you like to compete, perch fishing tournaments are held on the lake and the surrounding lakes.
All fishing needs are met at Lake Wawa, with a wide selection of fishing equipment available for purchase and a full-time staff to meet all fishing needs.

Additional ramps and marinas are located along the coast, and Lakeside Park and Henry Ward Park offer public access to the lake and the city of Syracuse. At Lake Wawa you can enjoy many wet and wonderful activities such as swimming, boating, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, hiking, camping and many other activities.

The region's yacht club is an attraction for those who prefer gentle sailing, and the sandbanks are shallow spots where you can anchor your boat and swim with your family. The state-run Wawasee Family Fishing Area offers fishing, boating, kayaking, canoeing, hiking, camping and many other activities. Without speed restrictions, the water shimmers during the day, but with the need to speed up, it is one of the state's most scenic lakes.

Plan to stay in spring, enjoy the colors of nature while paddling down Turkey Creek, stay in summer and enjoy ice fishing, snowmobiling, Christmas Park or year-round - around the lake and farmland you will see it come back to life. And Lake Wawa will welcome you. Stay in autumn and listen to the sound of the waves while enjoying the beautiful views from the shore of Lake Michigan and the Great Lakes. Finish the week with a quiet Sunday and finish the week with one of several boats for a church service. The waterfront is lined with shops, restaurants, bars, shops and restaurants that make this community a community you will call home every day and every week of your life.
