About Grayson Lake

The ball sailed over the weathered sandstone cliffs of Grayson Lake, Kentucky, USA, reaching the top of one of the most beautiful lakes in the world, Grayston Lake.

The sandstone rocks rise 150 feet into the air above the shore of the lake, offering a view that only birds normally see. The view from Grayson Lake in Kentucky into the Appalachians is also unusual and offers views of Kentucky and the Appalachians. Several lakes offer golf courses right on the water, and a day at the golf course is a good day, but the day at the lake only makes it better.
Grayson Lake is home to a golf course, the Grayson State Golf Course, which is also part of a state park.

Grayson Lake is a reservoir created by the US Army Corps of Engineers and designed to flood the Little Sandy River. Construction of the dam began in 1964 and by 1968, the 1,510-acre area, which includes parts of Elliott and Carter counties, had reached its maximum capacity of 1.5 million cubic meters of water.

Founded in 1970, Grayson Lake State Park covers 1.5 million square miles (2.2 million acres) and covers a total of 1,500 hectares (1,680 acres). It is located on land that was once home to the Cherokee and Shawnee Indians who lived in the area. The park includes a number of historic sites, including Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the Little Sandy River Trail, and its proximity to other national parks in Kentucky and Tennessee makes it a popular recreational destination.

Part of the Grayson Lake coast is accessible for fishing, and anglers can compete for trout, white perch and perch. Grayson Lake is located in the small town of Olive Hill, but the name is from the nearby Grayson. The welcome centre includes an interpreting area and a museum, and the lake itself houses a number of attractions, including a picnic area.

The county seat of Carter County, Grayson, is named after Colonel William Grayson, who served during the Revolutionary War under General George Washington. Carter Caves State Resort Park is an easy day trip from Grayson Lake and has earned the nickname "the heart of the parks."

The park, founded in 1946, covers an area of more than 1,500 hectares and also houses a large bat population.
