About Whitmore Lake

For nearly 100 years, this natural lake in southeastern Michigan has been home to seasonal and year-round sea bears that swim and boat. Whitmore Lake is one of the most popular destinations for kayaking, canoeing and fishing worldwide.

The lake has no natural inlets or permanent drains, so it is inhabited all year round - almost the entire coast. To raise the water level in dry periods, a canal was dug from the nearby Horseshoe Lake, and the lake is now filled with water from the same source. This small water barrier helps to keep the water level below the legally prescribed 835.8 meters.

Boat rental is also available, including rowing boats, fishing boats and pontoons. The commercial marina also offers private boats that can be launched from the boat ramp at the southern end of Whitemore Lake.

The lake is often quite busy, but Ann Arbor also offers a variety of activities, including fishing, kayaking, boating, canoeing and kayaking rental. Whitmore Lake is one of the largest lakes in Michigan and the second largest in the United States. The 667-hectare lake is located near the small town of Whit more Lake, which is located on the southwest shore. Homeowners on Whitmore Lake can enjoy the scenic view of Annapolis, Michigan, as well as the lake itself without missing out.

Detroit Metro Airport is about 30 miles away, and the upscale shopping districts of Howell and Brighton are less than 10 miles north.

Fishing at Whitmore Lake is popular with recreational fishermen, and the little tiger musk for which it is known has been caught.

DNR Michigan has been monitoring the fishery for more than 60 years and has experimented with a number of stocking programs. Tiger muskies have been kept regularly since 1969, but they have never become very common in Whitmore Lake.

The large amount of traffic at sea does not allow the large predators to thrive, and tiger muskies do not cause much damage in the lake.

The perch seems to be doing better than the panfish, but conservationists speculate that the highly developed coastline has left the pike little spawning ground. These disadvantages have not prevented many anglers from spending the day on the water. Holiday homes were once common in Whitmore Lake, and homeowners rented out their homes or guesthouses to short-term visitors. The old resort hotels have long since disappeared and the guest houses of the resorts are no longer used.

A major hotel chain is now in Whitmore Lake, with hotels, restaurants and even a golf course on the shores of the lake.
Just southwest of the town of Whitmore Lake is Independence Lake County Park, home to the Independence Rowing Club, a popular outdoor recreational area with a golf course. A number of other well-known state recreational areas are nearby, including Great Lakes State Park and Lake Michigan National Wildlife Refuge. The nature trails wind around the lake and offer views of Lake Superior, Lake Huron, the Michigan River and other lakes and rivers. Accommodation is offered at Whit More Lake Lodge, WhitMore Lake Resort and Hotel and at a number of other hotels and restaurants.

The town of Whitmore Lake offers several activities and events annually, which are appreciated by residents and visitors alike. The 4th of July festival lasts all weekend with a ski show organized by the Water Ski Club Pfingstsee. In summer, the library by the lake offers free outdoor movies, and the town organizes a summer camp for children and families.

The Whitmore Lake Harvest Festival takes place at the end of September, and an even more unusual event is the annual Harvest Festival, a celebration of harvesting all the fruits and vegetables in the city's catchment area.

Orphan car production took place in Whitmore Lake in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and the show features cars from the long-extinct Hudson company. This is probably the closest lover will get to a legendary vehicle, but it shows the cars of a long-defunct company, Hudson.

The city of Brighton hosts the Smokin 'Jazz, Barbecue and Blues Festival, and there is never a shortage of activities in the area. Brighton Leisure Centre hosts hovercraft races, as well as a number of other events, including the annual Whitmore Lake Festival.

Whitmore Lake is named after Leon Whitmore, who strangely never lived near the lake. A local surveyor from Ann Arbor searched for land in the area and stopped to camp at the lake. In the morning he exercised the prerogative of the former surveyors and listed it as Whit more Lake on his map.

Today, everyone in the Whitmore Lake area knows (or probably knows) that someone lived there, but not for much longer than a few years.

There are hardly any vacant plots that can be used for construction, but there are already existing houses of all kinds and configurations waiting for buyers. These properties are often available at a variety of prices and often at a very low price.

Whitmore Lake is located near Michigan's wealthiest city and is a sought-after address for those looking to get home. So come and stay in one of the most beautiful houses in the state of Michigan or even in the country.
