About Jordans Lake

Jordan Lake (originally called New Hope Lake) is a lake in North Carolina, USA, which is home to the largest freshwater lake of its kind in the world. The lake was created in 1884 by the US Army Corps of Engineers during the construction of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

In 1963, Senator B. Everett Jordan proposed the Lake Project to Congress, and a dam was built at Jordan Lake in Great Smoky Mountains National Park in North Carolina.

However, court proceedings delayed the flooding of the area until 1981, and in 1982 Jordan Lake achieved full protection from the water at 216 feet.

The lake stretches for 18 miles along the New Hope River, and the coast is protected as public property for about 200 miles. North Carolina leases 45,478 acres of water and land for public and private use in the city of Jordan Lake.

Jordan State Recreation Area operates Jordan Lake Leisure Centre, a state-of-the-art leisure centre with swimming pool, picnic area and views. The lakeside recreation centers are one of North Carolina's most popular tourist attractions and the largest in the United States.

The lake area is known for the endangered bald eagle and visitors can catch a glimpse of this awe-inspiring bird. If you want to see bald eagles, head to Jordan Lake State Recreation Area, known as one of the largest summer homes for them.

Jordan Lake is also a stopover for numerous migratory bird species and one of North Carolina's most popular bird watching destinations.

Fishing boats, motor boats and pontoons are at your disposal and will allow you to experience the lake as you will experience it. If you don't have your own boat, boating is high on your to-do list, you can rent one at the marina or on the lake. All eight places in the recreation area have boat ramps that allow the boats to approach.

Rest assured that nothing goes wrong at the lake, from the glittering water to the blue sky that stretches to infinity above your head.

Jordan Lake also offers fishing opportunities for beginners and experienced anglers. A fishing license from North Carolina is required, and there is a size limit of 16 inches for perch. Wild fish include striped bass, bluefish, whitefish and whitefish, as well as a variety of other fish species.

In the recreation area Robeson Creek there are hiking trails, which are not far from the lake. The paths offer hikers wide views and offer an incredible view of a lake that stretches into the distance. This could be a great opportunity to cool off after a hike in some of the cool waters of Lake Jordan.

Public access to the sandy beach is possible along the creek, but swimming is only allowed in this area. The designated bathing area is closed off and public access is only possible in the summer months.

The campsite has additional access to the sandy beach, but the campsite has no public access except to the beach and the creek, as well as a private pool and picnic area.

Jordan Lake, a 13,940-acre site, welcomes you with open arms while you enjoy the abundance of nature. Camping on the lake is a way to see nature from the inside and will remain in many unforgettable memories. Campers can reach certain campsite facilities that are not available to the general public, such as the swimming pool, picnic area and beach. It is well equipped with toilets, showers and camper van connections, as well as access to a private pool and picnic areas.
