About Lake Lure

Nestled in the emerald mountains of western North Carolina, Lake Lure's 720 acres sparkle in the sunlight. There are many reasons why the makers of Dirty Dancing chose this pristine lake for the film scene.

The lake has been attracting tourists for more than 85 years, including tourists from the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Australia.

Lake Lure began as a recreational community in western North Carolina, which was envisaged by Dr. Lucius B. Morse. After securing the financial support of his brothers, he first bought 400 hectares and founded Chimney Rock Park. In the 1950s and 1960s, additional acreage was purchased, bringing the total area to about 8,000 hectares.

At this point, Dr. Morse decided to build a dam on the Rocky Broad River to create a lake, the first of its kind in the United States. The dam was completed in 1926 and the lake was full in 1927, and his wife gave it its name.

The town of Lure was incorporated in 1927, the hydroelectric power plans were put into operation in 1928 and the town was reorganised in 1929. The river formed the Hickory Nut Gap, which later flowed into Lake Lures. Perched high on the ground on a huge boulder in Chimney Rock Park and overlooking the beautiful Rocky Broad River and its tributaries, you will witness the breathtaking beauty and wonder of nature.

If you listen carefully, you can almost hear the river rushing and the falcons and eagles floating in the sky. Fishing has long been a popular activity in Lake Lure, and fishing on Lake Lure is one of the most popular activities in North Carolina, as well as in many other parts of North America. You can welcome both the lake and its surroundings to the outdoor playground. I swear I've often turned away from the hook, but I swear I often move around the hook.

If you love water but fishing is not your preferred activity, Lake Lure offers many other ways to be satisfied. Visitors should go one way or another to the waters and, depending on speed and preference, rent a speedboat, pontoon boat, canoe or kayak. Make sure you have a good view of the lake and its surroundings, as well as the picturesque view from the shore.

If you want to pump up the adrenaline, grab a tube and drive at speed around the lake and make sure you see the lake from its best vantage point before your stay is over. You can also swim in the water, enjoying the beautiful, gentle mountains and peaceful nature.

Personal watercraft (pwc) are not allowed on Lake Lure, but you can take them with you if you enjoy a day trip to the park or a weekend stay at the hotel or campsite. Although it is incredibly beautiful, you must bring your own water vehicle such as a kayak, canoe or canoe to enjoy the beautiful views of the lake and its beautiful surroundings. The park offers a variety of hiking trails of varying difficulty, as well as trails for kayaking, fishing and camping.

Many visitors to Lure Lake are true outdoor enthusiasts, and the reservoir does not disappoint. It is an interesting walk that promises a maze of stairs that will entertain and challenge you. When you arrive at the top and look over the fireplace, you are greeted with an almost incredible view of 75 miles. Take your camera and your sense of awe with you and you will surely be delighted at the view.

On the shore there are five different campsites, offering everything from primitive tents to campers and vans. Whatever type of camping you have, sleeping outdoors at Lake Lure is a pleasure you will notice when the sunset and reflection of the moon on the lake becomes the best nightlight you have ever had.

Lake Lure has taken its reputation to heart, and whether hiking, fishing, sunbathing or swimming, this North Carolina lake has something for everyone and promises to make your next visit unforgettable.
