About Lake Gaston

Lake Gaston covers 3.2 square kilometers (3.2 square miles) and is covered by the Roanoke River, North Carolina's largest freshwater lake. The lake was created in 1963 by a dam on the Roanokes River to generate electricity from hydropower. In 1963, three lakes were created by the damming of the Leesburg River in the western part of North Charleston, Virginia.

Lake Gaston is located in the middle of the chain, and the water of Lake Gaston flows into the lake. Kerr Reservoir, located 300 feet above sea level, flows directly into Lake Gaston, which has a surface area of 3.2 square kilometers and a maximum depth of 1.5 meters.

Lake Gaston has an area of 3.2 square kilometres and a maximum depth of 1.5 metres, which is allowed by law.

The population of the lake is about 2,000 people, half of whom are full-time residents. With its sparkling blue waters and relaxed lifestyle, this lake attracts visitors and transplants alike. Lake Gaston is the second largest lake in North America and the third largest in the world.

Hydrilla, an invasive aquatic plant, was introduced to Lake Gaston, and water lovers love its green emerald color. In its effort to stop the hydrille spreading, the Community treats the lake as a refuge from the plant that eats fish with a predilection for weeds.

Start off at the public boat ramps and marinas around the coast and get ready for a day of lakeside fun. Those who like to go by boat will feel at home when they see pontoon boats cruising leisurely across the lake, jet skis going wild and fast, motor boats racing around the reservoir, water skiers, tubers and wakeboarders whizzing past the boats and much more. Sailboats drift by, waiting to catch the perfect wind, pepper the shores of the lakes and run into the 20 small bays.

The fishermen love Lake Gaston because of the large number of striped bass, bluefish and other small fish that are caught here. Other species found in the lake are bluefish, white perch and trout, as well as some small mules.

Fishing is above average, underpinned by annual fishing tournaments on the lake. If you are a hobby angler or tournament angler, remember that North Carolina and Virginia both require a $15 fishing license. Fishermen on both sides of the state border can use fishing licenses from Virginia and North Carolina.

Lake Gaston is located on the Virginia side of the lake, but campsites are available on both the North Carolina and Virginia sides and on the South Carolina side. Outdoor activities do not stop at the beautiful places around Lake Gaston.

While exploring the deciduous forest, look for squirrels, acorns, white-tailed deer and watch birds of prey such as owls, coyotes, foxes, raccoons, deer and elk. Americamps enjoys a prime forest location in the heart of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, just a short drive from the lake.

Whether you are looking for a holiday or a permanent move, Lake Gaston is rich in comfort, rustic charm and relaxation. Although the reservoir is man-made, it is surrounded by nature, and all of nature is right here on Lake Gaston's doorstep.
