About Lake Murray

Lake Murray is a popular lake for fishing and recreation and was named after the governor of Oklahoma, William H. Murray. It has a unique tower on the south side of the lake that served as Governor Murray's summer retreat. Lake Murray, a 5,728-acre reservoir completely surrounded by the Oklahoma River and Oklahoma State Park, the largest freshwater lake in the United States, is the second largest reservoir in Oklahoma and the third largest in North America.

Today, the Tucker Tower is home to the Oklahoma State Park and Recreation Center and is a popular destination for outdoor activities such as scuba diving.

The lake is partly fed by springs and is completely surrounded by the OK-77s and offers excellent access to all parts of the lake. The water is clean, cool and clear and easily accessible from Oklahoma State Park and Recreation Center, Tucker Tower and Ok- 77s.

Oklahoma lakes are known for large perches and fat dung beetles, and Lake Murray is no exception, and fishermen will not be disappointed by the lake's fish stocks, including perch, bluefish, whale, trout, redfish, whitefish and many other species.
There are a number of fish attractions that make it easy to find a good fishing spot, but sometimes it is only half the fun to find the fish. Marinas around the lake will tell you where the best fishing opportunities are and where the most popular fishing spots are.

The activities around the lake are endless, as Lake Murray is part of Murray National Park, which covers more than 3,500 square kilometers of land and water.

Cabins - large campsites and facilities are offered by state-run lodges and holiday resorts, and horses can also be rented in the stables around the lake.

Water activities include kayaking, canoeing, swimming, fishing, boating, rafting and other recreational activities. Sports facilities include a driving range and a remote controlled airfield as well as a golf course, and there are also a number of water sports facilities, such as kayaking and paddle boarding courses.

For those who do not want to swim in the lake, there is a pool, and Lake Murray Marina serves as a social hub in the evenings for visitors who need to check their emails and stay in touch with friends and family.

For hunters, the public hunting area of Hickory Creek is located on the southern border of the park, and for hunters, there is a public campground with picnic area, picnic tables, campfire and picnic table, and a fireplace. For campers there are pitches in the surrounding woods and picnickers can find covered shelters throughout the parks. Non-campers can camp in a tent, tent house or camp with access to the lake and shore area.

Hikers, cyclists and cyclists will enjoy the trails around the lake, and there are a number of hiking trails, cycle paths and cycle paths along the shore of Lake Murray.

A section of the lake has been designated as a watch zone where boaters must proceed slowly. Diving activities can be done in an area called Marietta Landing, right on the shores of Lake Murray.

On the surface of the lake there is also a sunken platform for diving, a diving pool and a swimming pool. Divers also find ropes that lead to several sinking attractions at the bottom of Lake Murray, such as Sunken Island and Duck Island.

Lake Murray is one of the few dive sites in the region that is deep enough to allow diving training up to 60 feet. The typical visibility is between 6 and 20 feet depending on the season and conditions, with the maximum visibility at the surface being 20 to 30 feet.

A special feature of Murray Lake is the Tucker Tower Nature Center, which is prominently located on the southern shore of the lake. The tower is made of stone and resembles a cross between the lighthouse and the castle.

Tucker Tower houses local artefacts, nature programs and activities of the State Park, as well as a museum. The area around the park is well worth a visit and Murray Falls National Wildlife Refuge, a popular tourist attraction, is nearby. It is a short drive north of Ardmore and hosts a number of local attractions, including the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and Mt.

Rainier National Forest.

East of Turner Falls is the Chickasaw National Recreation Area and south of Murray Lake Lake Texoma State Park offers more outdoor activities. Lake Murray is one of the largest outdoor resorts in Oklahoma and offers a variety of activities including kayaking, canoeing, hiking, fishing and camping.
