About Lake Cherokee

Lake Cherokee is located in east Texas, USA, about 30 miles east of Austin, Texas. It covers a landscape that includes much of the Texas Panhandle and parts of western and eastern Oklahoma. Here and throughout eastern Texas, pine and deciduous forests dominate. Lake Cherokee, a term that describes a private community around the lake, is a small community with a population of about 1,000 people and a total area of 1.5 square miles.

The lake that was snatched from Cherokee Bayou belongs to the Cherokee Water Company, which built the dam in 1948. The waterfalls here are exhilarating and so many trees mean that spring is finally here. From dogwood to blossoms, everyone knows what is what.

The lake is 3,000 hectares in size and surrounded by thousands of other hectares of communal land. The company also pays property taxes, and the Cherokee Water Company provides water to the City of Cherokee and several other surrounding cities.

Lake Cherokee (population 6000) may be a city, but it is not, because of the large number of inhabitants.
