About Lake Lyndon B Johnso

Lake Lyndon B. Johnson, also known as Lake LBJ, is a lake in Texas, USA, in the state of Texas. The lake is about 45 miles northwest of Austin and is bounded by Interstate 35, Interstate 10, I-35 and Interstate 30.

Originally known as Granite Shoals, Lake Lyndon B. Johnson was created by the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) to provide additional hydropower to the region. Lake LBJ was created in 1951 by a dam on the Llano and Colorado rivers, which flow into the northern part of the lake.

Lake LBJ also supplies cooling water to the city of San Antonio, Texas, as well as other local businesses. There are two other so-called Highland Lakes in Texas; the other is in the lake, Ink Lake, and there is a third so-called Highland Lakes on the west side of the river.

Lyndon B. Johnson was elected 36th President of the United States in 1965 and also owned a ranch on the shores of Lake LBJ.

President Johnson worked to pass the Rural Electrification Act, which helped establish LakeLBJ and the other Highland Lakes. Lake Lyndon B Johnson is very popular with water sports enthusiasts because it has a relatively constant water level throughout the year.

You can practice all year round at the lake and swim, canoe, kayak, paddle and even swim a few hours a day in the water.

Fishing is also popular at LBJ Lake, and the lake is home to a large number of small and medium sized perches, trout and other fish, making it a prime location for anglers.

The region also offers many activities around Lake LBJ, and much of the lake property is privately owned. The Granite Beach Recreation Area, maintained by the LCRA, offers a variety of activities including swimming, boating, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, hiking and camping. Golf, bird watching and vineyards are nearby and a water park is available, as well as a golf course, tennis courts, golf courses and other leisure activities.

History buffs will enjoy the Nightengale Archaeological Center in Kingsland, which provides information about the prehistoric people who lived in this part of Texas. A tour of nearby Johnson City offers a history lesson on recent history and the history of Lake LBJ and Lake Johnson.

As a holiday and retirement destination, this beautiful region offers year-round fun for the whole family. Lake Lyndon B. Johnson offers scenic views of the San Jacinto Mountains, the Texas Panhandle and the Rio Grande Valley. Saddles offer hiking and wildlife viewing as well as a variety of outdoor activities such as kayaking, canoeing, hiking, fishing, camping and much more.
