About Lake Salem

Salem Lake is located in the breathtaking Northeast of Vermont and is one of the most beautiful lakes in the United States and the second largest lake in North America. It consists of two lakes, the largest of which, Lake Salem, spans the Hayward Road Bridge, which spans the channel between the two lakes.

Lake Salem and the city of Derby are a leisure paradise and can be enjoyed in all seasons. Autumn brings bright colours, while winter provides the perfect climate for snow sports.

Derby was founded in 1779 with a grant of 60 scholarship holders, but when they failed to pay their fees, the city was sold and chartered as Salem. The city of Salem was never fully developed and parts of it were connected to Newport in 1816. The southern part of Derby was originally chartered as Gatesborough, while the rest became part of the Derby in the 1880s.

In addition to Lake Salem, Derby is home to Little Salem Lake, Big Salem Lake and the Clyde River. The Clyde River flows through the southern part of Lake LittleSalem and leaves the lake at the northwestern tip of Lake Great Salem.

White water lovers will find rapids as the Clyde River flows through the lake and ponds and through the creek system. The edge of the river and its tributary, the Little Salem, offer a rewarding and breathtaking white water experience.

This picturesque holiday home is located on the unspoilt shores of Lake Salem and offers an excellent holiday destination. Visitors can relax on a deck with lake views and watch loons and ducks glide gracefully across the water. The recreational opportunities on Lake Salem are numerous and include swimming, camping, boating and fishing. The property is located in Derby and other nearby towns, including Newport, as well as on the eastern shore of the lake in the town of Salem.

Fishermen will find abundant perch, whales and salmon here, and additional fishing is available on the Clyde River, where anglers enjoy fly fishing. The Clyde is also ideal for canoeing, kayaking, fishing, boating and swimming.

The kingdom to the north and east also hosts several championship-level golf courses, and golfers, hikers and other sports enthusiasts can spend the day outdoors, watching the sunset over Lake Salem and sipping wine on the lakeside. Salem Lake in the Northeast of the Kingdom, known as the Switzerland of Vermont, has the added advantage of being a popular place for skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling. Many of its guests have access to a wide range of recreational activities, including visitors from across the United States, Canada and Europe.

The Derby is located on the Canadian border and is bordered by CANUSA Avenue, which has a road that separates Canada and the United States. Other scenic day trips include a visit to the historic city of Derby, Vermont, the oldest city in the Kingdom, and a trip back to the 19th century with a guided tour of the Derby Museum, a museum of Vermont history.

The museum is surrounded by beautiful farmland in Vermont and includes six buildings and a cemetery. The main feature of the museum is Athenial Hall, built in the 1830s, which houses a collection of artefacts from Derby's history.

Lake Salem is a great place to visit and a portal through which visitors can experience the hospitality of New England. While lake dwellers can enjoy the breathtaking beauty of Lake Salem year-round, visitors to Lake Salem can also relax in their own private vacation homes, participate in activities around the lake, attend circus fairs, watch maple syrup at work, and even enjoy the beautiful views of beautiful Lake Champlain in Vermont from the shore.
