About Lake Anna

Lake Anna, which covers 13,000 hectares in central Vida, is one of the largest freshwater lakes in the state. It covers the northern and central tourist region of Virginia with a total area of 2.5 million square kilometers.

Lake Anna was founded in 1971 by the Virginia Electric Power Company with the North Anna River Dam. It was supposed to take three years to fill the pond, but heavy rains from Hurricane Agnes in 1972 meant it was filled two years earlier than planned.

Nevertheless, the lake is one of the largest freshwater lakes in the United States and the second largest in Virginia. Lake Anna is a popular destination for swimming, fishing, boating, canoeing and other recreational activities, but heavy traffic can occur on summer weekends. The water cools down in the summer months due to its proximity to the North Anna River Dam, making it an ideal place for camping, picnicking, swimming and fishing.

Although the total area of the lake is 13,000 hectares, only 9,600 hectares are open to the public. The other 3,400 hectares are three mini-lakes that draw cooling water from the nuclear power plant and dissipate heat into the atmosphere.

These areas are only accessible to landowners and their guests and only for special occasions such as weddings, weddings and other special occasions.

Lake Anna shares its surrounding land with Lake Anna State Park and shares it with neighboring State Park. Formerly known as Gold Hill, the park was home to the Goodwin gold mine and although mining only peaked in the 1880s, it was discovered as a flax treasure in the 1890s. The last gold was found in 1924, which eventually allowed the state to buy the land and create a state park.

Lake Anna State Park offers visitors many activities including hiking, camping, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, rafting and other recreational activities. The park also offers campsites with fully equipped cabins and if you want to camp, you will find a variety of options, such as a campsite, picnic area and even a boat ramp. In summer, the park opens for camping when the lake fills up, and there are 6,000 square meters of camping space available for campers.

Hot showers, toilets and lantern holders are available in the cabins, which are available for $10 per night or $15 per day for a total of $30 per week.

If you live by the lake and prefer a mattress and stove, the cottages also come with a fully equipped kitchen and a wraparound deck that maximizes views, as well as a fireplace. The State Park has a public beach where you can do this, but if you're diving into the lakes to get in a hurry, put on a towel and get the beach ready. After swimming, you can enjoy the enticing warmth of the extensive shores of Lake Anna, warm up in the shade of one of the many trees or dive and swim with the whole family.

If you're a landlubber, Lake Anna State Park has more than 15 miles of hiking, horseback riding and cycling trails that can be used for $10. Because the lake is used to cool a nuclear power plant, the water is warmer than any other lake in Virginia, yet still provides refreshment. As you meander along the paths and hike up and down the ridges, you will be spoilt by the beautiful mountain views and spectacular views from the coast.

Take your camera with you to photograph butterflies, birds and special scenes that cross along the way, such as the Great Blue Heron and the Blue Ridge Mountains.

When you are ready to be back on the water, do not give in to the temptation to take your rented boat or boat home. Lake Anna has no horsepower limit, so any boat of any kind can float on the water for as long as you like, up to a maximum speed of 30 miles per hour.

If you want some sightseeing, the pontoon boats offer the perfect combination of speed and leisure. If you prefer a quiet ride, grab a paddle and jump into the water with your friends or jump on a motorboat and enjoy the adrenaline rush that wakes you up for an exciting ride.

For younger anglers, Lake Anna State Park has a 1.5-hectare pond that can only be used by children and the disabled. If you want to fish in the future, the boats are one of the best ways to fish anywhere in this state. The more than 30 species of fish that inhabit the lake, including striped bass, bluefish, redfish, yellowfin tuna and more, can be caught in all weather conditions. Remember that you will need a pontoon boat permit and a valid fishing license from the Virginia Department of Natural Resources (DNR). The State Park also offers several family-friendly activities throughout the year, including kayaking, canoeing, hiking, fishing, boating, swimming, kayaking and kayaking, as well as a variety of activities for children.
