About Lake Morton

With the snow-capped Mt. Rainier in the background, Lake Morton looks like the perfect subject for an artist's canvas. With its deep blue waters and beautiful views of the Columbia River, it is one of Washington's most popular tourist destinations.

A public jetty provides visitors with access to the lake, and they can also find that it is a popular destination for kayaking, canoeing, swimming, fishing and other recreational activities.

The highest peak of the Cascades, Mount Rainier, is located a little southeast of Lake Morton. Serious hikers can reach the summit at 14,410 feet and are rewarded with views of Puget Sound, the Seattle skyline and the Pacific Ocean. From this view, visitors have a spectacular view of Pugets Sound from the top of Mount Rainier, as well as the city of Seattle.

On a clear day, visitors can even catch a glimpse of the summit of Mount Hood in Oregon, the Pacific Ocean and the city of Seattle.
For visitors who prefer less strenuous activities, Mount Rainier National Park offers a wide range of hiking, biking, and mountain biking trails, as well as a variety of other activities. The Gifford Pinchot National Forest is one of the largest national forests in the United States, covering more than 1.5 million acres. South of Mount Rainier, it extends into Columbia River Gorge and the Cascade - Siskiyou Mountains in Washington State. This national forest also includes Mount Hood National Wildlife Refuge, a national park, the Helen B. Pinchesot State Park, created by Congress in 1982 as part of its National Parks Act of 1982.

Hiking, camping and nature watching are just some of the activities allowed in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest and other national parks and national parks.

Nature observers can discover a great variety of flora and fauna during hikes along designated trails.
