About Mayfield Lake

Mayfield Lake is located at the foot of the cascades in Lewis County, Washington, USA. The 2,200-acre reservoir, located on the west side of Lake Washington near the town of Mayfield, about 30 miles north of Seattle, is the largest freshwater lake in Washington and the second largest in North America.

The park offers public access to Mayfield Lake, and most of the 33.5-mile coastline is undeveloped. It is considered one of the most scenic parks in Washington, overlooking Lake Washington, the Columbia River and the Cascade Mountains.

Although much of the land around Mayfield Lake is undeveloped, there are still houses and vacation homes that hide on the wooded shore. Mayfields Lake Dam was created in 1963 by the construction of a dam on the Cowlitz River and is owned by the Tacoma Power Company. Although its main purpose is to provide hydropower to more than 50,000 households, it is also known as a recreational wonderland.

Mayfield Lake Park offers a variety of campsites with water, electricity and other amenities such as picnic tables and picnic areas.

Camping is also possible in Ike Kinswa State Park, which acts as a campground for water and electricity.

The State Park also offers a boat ramp with entry fee, and additional boat ramps are located at the marina and in the seaside resort.

Due to the popularity of Mayfield Lake, reservations for July 1 and August 31, 2016 should be made in advance.

For anglers who qualify for competitions, a musky tournament is held every year in the cold waters of Mayfield Lake. Fishermen can find a variety of fish in and around Mayfields Lake, but the tiger musk has been stocked since 1988 and now holds the record for the largest tiger captured by Musk. It is a popular sport fish that can be caught on the lake and in a number of other lakes and rivers in Washington state.

In addition to fishing, visitors and residents can enjoy a variety of outdoor activities such as hiking, kayaking, canoeing, mountain biking and other outdoor activities.

Mayfield Lake is an excellent base for an unforgettable vacation in Washington, and on a trip to the Northwest, tourists can explore the cities of Seattle and Puget Sound.

Visitors can enjoy theatre and music performances and cover their palette with a variety of outdoor activities such as kayaking, canoeing, hiking, fishing, swimming, kayaking and paddling.

Olympia, the capital of Washington, is located halfway between Mayfield Lake and Seattle, and a visit to the Washington State Capitol is the city's pleasure. The Capitol Campus includes the Capitol Building, Capitol Hill and the US Capitol Building. Seattle has everything a major city has to offer, including a 520-foot observation deck built for the 1962 World's Fair.

Vancouver, Washington is located on the north bank of the Columbia River and visitors can enjoy river cruises, explore historic sites, walk through the historic streets that Lewis and Clark once praised Vancouver for, or enjoy a river cruise. Another city to visit is Vancouver, home to Vancouver International Airport, the largest airport in the United States and the second largest in Canada.

To get eastward from Mayfield Lake, there are entrances to the Columbia River and the Canadian border. Further north is the access to Lake Washington, the largest freshwater lake in the United States and one of the largest in the world. The forest is home to more than 1.5 million acres (2.2 million hectares) of forest created by Congress in 1982.

Many people choose the beautiful Washington region as their home, and given the proximity of both major cities to the national forest, it is no wonder that many people decide that simply taking a vacation is not enough. The snow-capped summit of Mount Rainier is a sight to behold, and visitors can see the summit of Mt. Hood, Oregon, on a clear day. Climbing the summit from 14,410 feet, you can see from the highest point in the USA and one of the highest peaks in the world.

Whether you visit Mayfield Lake or make it your permanent home, you will find a peaceful retreat in the heart of the National Forest.
