9 Best Tackle Backpacks

Fishing is an arduous activity. It requires a lot of physicality and strength. Thank God there are tools, gears, and types of equipment to make our lives easier. But of course, the enormous number of tools and equipment that you need to bring when you go out fishing requires a useful storage bag that can protect and carry them all at once.

There are different bags that you can choose from; however, for me, the most convenient ones are tackle backpacks. Unlike other types of bags like duffel bags, backpacks are exceptionally comfortable because they can be carried with your back. This means that your two hands are free to hold on other things that cannot fit your bag.

When choosing for the perfect tackle backpacks, I have a few criteria. I ask myself, is this bag durable? Does it have enough storage capacity? Is the material truly waterproof? Do the zippers rust? Are the straps stable and comfortable to wear? All of these factors are a few of the multiple reasons why I think a tackle bag is a good one.

That being said, I have compiled my top five choices for the best tackle backpacks that are available in the market. Each one is curated based on its own strengths, including durability, pricing, design, and storage capacity. The reputation of the maker sometimes comes into play, too!

'Blackstar' Fishing Backpack from Calissa Offshore Tackle

Kiwi Camp Dry Heavy Duty Water RepellentThis tackle backpack has a front trapdoor that fits 4x 3650 containers and any 3600 series. The containers come with the package, and the pack is extra-large, measuring 20” tall, 17” wide and 9” deep. It has a removable section between the top and bottom compartments for guys with bigger tackle. It also has quick access pockets with spacious, practical sizes that allow fishers to get whatever they need from the bag without fumbling around. The bag is made from lightweight, breathable polyester, mang the bag, and zip saltwater corrosion resistant. It also comes with a hard case sunglasses container, a plier holder, and a clear pocket to hold your fishing license.

Pros

  • Waterproof material
  • Multiple pockets including a clear pocket for license and a hard sunglasses case
  • Size is perfect even for people who are bigger

Cons

  • The containers that come with it has a poor quality
  • Only comes in one color

Our Take

When it comes to backpacks and the containers you bring with you as you go out and fish, size always matters, of course, an enormous size does not mean it's perfect. It has to be the right size that allows you to contain all your gears and tackles but, at the same time, small enough for you not to struggle as you carry it. It should be entirely portable.

The Calissa Offshore Tackle, 'Blackstar' Fishing Backpack, demonstrates this perfect balance. It is designed to have a spacious container without sacrificing the comfort of carrying it. Besides, less tackle, more fishing, right?

This bag also has a fast-access trapdoor in front that fits four (4) 3650 containers nice and snug and any 3600 series. And of course, you can fit smaller boxes. This is very important on multiple levels. The trap door is incredible, as it can be accessed without hassle. Also, it is good for organizing different materials, gears, snacks, and other fishing paraphernalia inside it. However, I may have an issue with the containers that come with it, so I don't recommend that you purchase this bag with the container that comes with it. Instead, find other containers with better latches.

More importantly, this bag is also made with high-quality polyester, making sure that everything inside it is protected from water. It's fitted with anti-rust zippers to protect them from malfunctioning after being wet.

How many pairs of sunglasses have you lost? This bag has added a hard-shell sunglass case, so you don't miss any more! They also added a plier holder and a clear pocket to hold your fishing license. These compartments, trap door, and the nine other pockets make this bag one of the most convenient tackle backpacks you can get.

2

Piscifun Fishing Tackle Backpack

Kiwi Camp Dry Heavy Duty Water RepellentThe Piscifun NEW Giant Tackle bag is made from superior high quality water-resistant 1200D high-density nylon fabrics, paired with durable KAM buckle and SBS zippers. The whole fishing tackle backpack is divided into 11 independent rooms by high-quality SBS zippers; the unique component design helps the rooms to be 18 relatively separated small areas in total. You will get a super large L(12.6’’) * W(7.9’’) * H(17.7’’) room for the big size tackle by collapsing the clapboard. Opening the clapboard to have two equally separated rooms for more effective use with different stuff. The bag comes in three colors: Black, Digital Camouflage, and Khaki.

Pros

  • Durable and made with high-quality materials and procedures
  • Ergonomic design and strap is comfortable

Cons

  • Small top opening
  • The boxes that come with it is not the right size for baits and other tools

Our Take

Piscifun is one of the trusted brands in the game of fishing and tackle bags. It is one of the bags that I recommend the most. Of course, this one, in particular, is no different. The Piscifun Fishing Tackle Backpack is one of the best contenders in the market.

With its reputation, Piscifun lets us know that they mean business with this backpack. I feel like it was appropriately designed as it comes with an ergonomic padded back with breathable design paired with adjustable, breathable, and padded shoulder straps that give you better comfort. This is one of the most important factors when I decide to buy a backpack, primarily if the bag is meant to carry tons of loads of metals and gears.

Of course, comfort is nothing if a fishing bag is not waterproof. Yes, this bag is made of high-quality nylon fabric that you can be sure that your stuff will not get wet. But Piscifun does not end there; they have also manufactured this bag with precise 86 sewing procedures, offering 20% higher water resistance and toughness. This is why I know that there is no chance that this bag will break on you when you are fishing.

In terms of sizing, this bag plays in the middle when it comes to storage capacity. However, it comes with tackle boxes that are good enough. My main problem, however, is that the opening on top is tiny. Also, if you fold the flap on the inside, so you can have the tackle boxes inside horizontally, you get only a small compartment on the top that doest fit much. And if you don't use the flap and throw everything inside, it'll be impossible to grab something from the bottom without having to take things out because again, the top doesn't open very much at all. However, all-in-all, this bag is still perfect for those who don't need much storage, nonetheless.

3

Wild River by CLC WT3604 Tackle Tek Nomad Lighted Backpack and Four PT3600 Trays

Kiwi Camp Dry Heavy Duty Water RepellentThe Nomad is Wild River's soft tackle "single solution" bag. It has an integrated LED light system that allows you to see into the bag, or your work area when natural light gets scarce. It also features a large upper storage area with a removable divider that can convert this bag to a full-size backpack for holding more substantial items. Measuring 18.5 x 17 x 8.5 inches, the Nomad fishing backpack can hold up to six 3600-series and four 3500-series trays. Furthermore, it features a removable plier holder that smoothly goes from bag to belt. It has external and internal mesh pockets to view contents easily. It also has base pads to reduce wear and help keep the bag clean.

Pros

  • Built-in LED Light
  • Comes with a rain cover for extra protection
  • removable pliers holder and mounted molded sunglasses case

Cons

  • The bag is heavy even when it's empty

Our Take

Custom LeatherCraft has been in the business for more than 30 years, and they have a raving reputation when it comes to products that they manufacture. It is one of the most trustworthy tackle bag manufacturers out there, and they are betting their money on the Wild River Nomad.

On the surface, this tackle backpack is made with precise stitching and excellent quality materials that will surely last long amidst the rough conditions while fishing. It also has plenty of storage space, being able to hold either four deep Plano 3630 boxes or four regular Plano 3620 boxes, plus a coffee thermos, extra shirts, headlamps, spools, and other miscellaneous gear. It also has outstanding quality and durable zippers, made with sturdy material with thick plastic pads on the bottom to keep it a little elevated off the ground.

However, what makes the tackle backpack from Custom LeatherCraft stand out among other tackle bags in the market is its brilliant inclusion of a built-in LED light. The integrated lighting system in this backpack enables you to keep your hands free at night because you no longer need to hold a portable torchlight to guide your way. This feature is especially powerful, especially for people who like fishing at night.

On top of that, while the materials used in manufacturing the bag is already waterproof, the package also includes a rain protector that you can slip on to protect the bag from being wet. It also has a permanently mounted molded sunglass holder that helps keep your glasses safe as well as a removable plier holder goes from bag to belt, so your pliers are easy to find.

The only problem that I have with this backpack is that it is quite heavy. It weighs around seven pounds without contents, so you can imagine how it would consider when all your gear and equipment is inside the bag. Nonetheless, this backpack is still value for money.

4

Wild River CLC WT3606 Multi-Tackle Large Backpack

Kiwi Camp Dry Heavy Duty Water RepellentThe Wild River WT3606 Multi-Tackle, Large Backpack from Custom LeatherCraft, is a multi-Tackle large backpack with two #3600 style trays and a lower tray compartment for storage of up to four #3600 style trays. The bag has a large upper storage area with a removable divider that converts backpack for storage of larger items and a front pocket cover that folds down to provide a handy work surface. It has large adjustable padded shoulder straps with sternum strap for all-day comfort and fit. It also features a clear internal pocket to keep your maps and licenses visible but dry. The front web loops are designed for more organization possibilities, and the base pads are built-in to reduce wear and help keep bag clean and dry.

Pros

  • Top cover can be used as a working surface
  • Lighter to carry around
  • Costs lesser than other backpacks

Cons

  • No LED light
  • The compartment opening is quite narrow

Our Take

This bag is another masterpiece from Custom Leathercraft. Similar to the Nomad Wild Water backpack, this one is also for the books. With an excellent reputation in the industry, CLC is making sure that each bag they produce is high-quality and world-class. This one is not an exemption. The Wild River WT3606 Multi-Tackle, Large Backpack from Custom LeatherCraft, is designed in such a way that it is lighter to carry. It has cool features that make it a perfect contender to become the best tackle bag in the market.

This bag prides itself on its large upper storage area with a removable divider. It converts the tackle backpack for storage of larger items and adjustable padded shoulder straps with an added sternum strap that is featured on this Wild River fishing tackle backpack for better comfort and fit.

It is constructed well, and the top compartment is nice for extra fishing lines, reels, pork rind jars, and other odds and ends. The waterproof zipper pocket under the top compartment lid is great for your cell phone and fishing license. The bag is definitely designed with fishing as an activity in mind.

However, what sold me in this tackle backpack is its convertible tray that you can use as a table surface. Its front pocket cover folds down to provide a handy work surface, which you can use when writing, holding stuff in place, as cutting board, and the possibilities are enormous.

The only significant difference that this bag has as compared to the previous one in this list is that this tack backpack does not have its built-in LED light. So if the lighting is not a necessity for you, this bag is much lighter than the first one, making it easier for you to carry around.

Of course, since the bag does not include high-end techs like the LED lighting and solar panels, this bag costs relatively lower than its LED version. At $101, this bag is a steal!

5

Fiblink Waterproof Sports Single Shoulder Fishing Tackle Bag

Kiwi Camp Dry Heavy Duty Water RepellentThe Fiblink Waterproof Sports Single Shoulder Fishing Tackle Bag is crafted with high-quality 1000D heavy-duty Nylon fabrics making it very durable. The entire bag is also coated with waterproofing coated to prevent it from being wet while fishing and has a high-density ribbon that is highly resistant to tears and abrasion. It uses KAM buckle and SBS zippers that are not easily cracked and damaged even if aggressive use. The back is lined with breathable mesh, and the shoulder pads are lengthened and widened, which are designed to maximize support and comfort. Furthermore, the shoulder pads are also removable and can be transformed into a belt, whichever suits your style. The size of the main compartment is 12" x 8.7" x 6", making it suitable for all kinds of outdoor activities such as fishing, hunting, hiking, camping, cycling, and mountaineering.

Pros

  • Huge storage capacity
  • Durable and waterproof
  • Many compartments

Cons

  • The rod holder can render useless
  • The design can be a little tacky for some taste

Our Take

When you need a fishing bag that fits more stuff while being well organized, accessible, and easily slung over a shoulder to change fishing spots, then the Fiblink Waterproof Sports Single Shoulder Fishing Tackle Bag g is the perfect combination of capacity and organization. There is a spot for pliers on the side with a velcro strap to hold them in. On the front, the small top pouch is perfect for a small screwdriver, line pick (bait casters), cell phone, line clippers/cutters, small bug spray, etc. The larger front pouch is perfect for plastics. I think I have about 12 packs in there. Plenty of MOLLE, velcro, and D-rings for towels or lanyards for your pliers and flashlights or whatever.

Additionally, the bag lets you separate your stuff so that you can easily get what you need without pulling everything out. If there is something I can gripe about this fishing bag, that is the rod holder that, for me, doesn't really do the job. Nonetheless, with all the good things about this bag, this minor thing becomes irrelevant.

In conclusion, this bag is absolutely awesome, and you should consider it when buying a new fishing bag for your next trip!

BLISSWILL Fishing Backpack

Kiwi Camp Dry Heavy Duty Water RepellentThe BLISSWILL Fishing Backpack with dimensions measuring 12x8.7x6 inches is definitely multifunctional. It comes with an adjustable and detachable strap, allowing you to transform it into a backpack, a shoulder bag, and handbag depending on your taste. The front of the unique triangle strap design, and the lengthened and widened shoulder pads are designed to relieve shoulder fatigue effectively so that wearing it can be more comfortable and convenient. The bag is made with high-quality 1000D Water-Resistant nylon fabrics with extra firm stitches and full-length zippers to make sure that it doesn't easily disintegrate. On top of that, this tackle bag has multiple storage compartments and exterior pockets.

Pros

  • Great looks and aesthetic
  • Sturdy, waterproof, and durable
  • Many compartments
  • Inexpensive

Cons

  • None

Our Take

First of all, let me tell you how in love I am with how this tackle bag looks. We all know how camo and military-inspired aesthetics can easily go awry, but this bag has been beautifully designed that it rather looks cool and awesome! Looks aside, I believe that this bag is a perfect little multi-use pack. There's just so much that you can do with it.

An interesting design decision in the BLISSWILL Fishing Backpack is its sizing - which is small enough for it to be conveniently strapped in your shoulder but has enough storage capacity that it can carry tons of fishing gears and tools comfortably. The main compartment is big enough for stacked Plano boxes or a single + lunch.

It's well constructed from solid nylon with ample pockets, straps, rings, and hold-downs in every conceivable place. The main strap is sturdy and very long and can be rigged in multiple configurations as well as removed completely. The straps on the front panel are molle compatible, so the pack could be further expanded that way. While I don't intend to do this now, one could easily strap a breakdown rod to this thing for an extended hike. The strap also keeps it in one place on your back, and mine arrived with a long small strap that could be used as a waist strap on a smaller person.

Overall, this bag is of great value, and I recommend you to check this out!

Prospo 40L Fishing Backpack

Kiwi Camp Dry Heavy Duty Water RepellentThe Prospo 40L Fishing Backpack is a military tactical backpack that is made of 1000D polyester fabric with a water-resistant coating, making it more durable, wrinkle-resistant, as well as encouraging more shape retention. It measures 12x18.5x12 inches and is molle compatible. The fishing backpack is armed with a molle webbing system on the front and side to allow more attachments. 2-way cord zippers, comfortable padding back area, ventilated mesh padding shoulder strap, chest strap and waist belt which are detachable are other added features to help you become more comfortable in any outdoor activity like fishing, hunting, and mountaineering.

Pros

  • Very stylish
  • Long-lasting and very durable
  • Inexpensive
  • Very customizable
  • Huge storage capacity

Cons

  • The straps need frequent readjustments
  • The Velcro stitching is not polish

Our Take

What is exceptionally impressive about this backpack is that it is designed for lengthy travels that could last up to days. That means that the storage capacity of this backpack is huge. In fact, you can take this out in the wild and fit in a 3-day worth of clothes and supplies and still have space for other smaller items to pack.

In contrast to the many other versions I have stumbled upon, this one has the most straps for MOLLE attachments and has the straps for both the chest and waist. The layout of the pockets and its silhouette is amazing. I love how easily customize-able it is and how durable it has been. One interesting feature of this bag is the magic sticker straps on the front that allows you to attach any patch that you want!
The main thing that made me pick this over the rest is the price! Compared to other bags with fewer features and its name brand counterparts, it is still extremely cheap and provided everything I am looking for.

The only downside of this bag, in my opinion, is that on the Velcro section on the pack, there are long strands that come off of it. It is honestly not a big deal, especially if we are talking about an inexpensive bag.

KastKing Fishing Tackle Backpack

Kiwi Camp Dry Heavy Duty Water RepellentDesigned for the angler on the go, KastKing's Day Tripper fishing tackle backpack is designed to efficiently manage tackle so you can stay mobile. This fishing backpack offers plenty of storage for fishing gear and tackle, so you are always prepared for a hike to a remote stream or a day of bass fishing on your buddy's boat. It is fitted with rod and tool storage that keep your hands free as well as double pockets that offer a secure way of transporting your rod or combo. The KastKing Day Tripper Tackle Bag is made from tough 420D rip-stop nylon material for exceptional long-term performance and reliability and is covered with a hydrophobic coating that repels moisture from the outside and a PVC layer on the inside that provides extra protection to ensure your tackle is protected from the elements.

Pros

  • Many storage pockets
  • Roomy main compartment
  • Waterproof coating on the outside of the bag
  • Comfortable shoulder pads

Cons

  • Can be old-fashioned for some taste

Our Take

There is one reason why some anglers are choosing tackle backpacks over the traditional tackle bags which have more storage capacity. That is, they want to be hands-free when traveling. Being said, the KastKing Day Tripper Tackle Bag is a perfect compromise between storage and convenience. For one, it is a backpack that frees your hand when carrying it to your next fishing location, but it also has ample main storage and a lot of specialized compartment and storage solutions that allow you to bring everything you need for the trip.

They put an incredible number of pockets that allow you to organize all your various fishing items. The main compartment is separated into to main spaces so you can place lures boxes in one and a clothing layer in the other. The padding on the packs' back and shoulder straps are thick and cushiony too. I very much like the rod holders on the outside as well, and the zippers and zipper pulls seem really rugged, giving it a rustic aesthetic.

The material is hefty and solid throughout the pack. It is even covered with a hydrophobic coating that makes sure that the bag won't get wet and protect its contents from being wet.

Overall, I believe that this bag is well-made. It is also well-thought-out in terms of design and features. Great buy!

Shaddock Fishing Bag

Kiwi Camp Dry Heavy Duty Water RepellentThis fishing backpack made by Shaddock is made with heavy-duty grade high-tech polyester with an adjustable shoulder strap that is both convenient and practical. This high-capacity fishing bag can hold up to five rods and reels on the outside and more rods, reels, tackle, and equipment on the inside. It has a large exterior pocket with fastener for essentials plus a padded adjustable shoulder strap and carrying handle that is perfect for an angler that is always on the go.

Pros

  • Unique elongated design
  • Can fit more than five fishing rods inside and outside
  • Straps can securely fasten gears during transport

Cons

  • Straps are not very durable

Our Take

When going fishing, the most important thing that you need to pack is your fishing rods and reels. That being said, the fishing backpack made by Shaddock is definitely designed with anglers' experiences in mind. Unlike typical backpacks, this fishing backpack is elongated, which allows you to pack multiple fishing rods and reels inside that protect them from the elements. And because the bag is vertical in orientation, it is very deep as well, allowing you to put as much stuff inside as you need to.

And it doesn't look tacky as well. It has a unique aesthetic that is not only excellent in form but is also good in terms of function. The straps that it has are very well-designed as well. They are not very thick, but they can be securely fastened with double straps at the top of the bag, and it features a quick fastener strap around the outside center that secures your gear during transport.

However, based on several online reviews, this bag has some durability issues. There are claims that the strap can easily be ripped off. However, I believe that this is a matter of usage and not of design. All in all, this bag is an awesome alternative to traditional fishing bags, and you should give it a try.
