Pros

  • Cheap
  • Covered by one year warranty

Cons

  • May occasionally have factory defects that need replacement

Our Take

When it comes to fishing, especially for big and strong fishes like Tuna, it is essential to have a durable and reliable rod to be able to take home a catch. I took a chance and bought these rods to bring it to the test. It is an incredible rod, to say the least. Very lightweight, and the EVA foam handle makes it comfortable to use for the hand when you are gripping. This rod is also very useful in strolling deep waters, which makes it suitable for big fish fishing. However, I had found some issues when I ordered it. Upon arrival, I have noticed that the reel was quite misaligned, with most of it leaning to the left. This was apparent on one of the three rods that I ordered. I immediately shipped it back for replacement, and they were very considerate of my concern. The other two were perfectly fine as I used them immediately during the weekend. There were no issues when it comes to the durability of these rods, as none of them broke under pressure in the course of my 3-month fishing activities. Overall, it performs reasonably satisfactory for its price range.

It is worth a try, and whatever issues you have will be covered by the one year warranty the company offers.

Piscifun Torrent Baitcasting Rod

Kiwi Camp Dry Heavy Duty Water RepellentThe torrent rod is made with high-quality IM6 carbon and accurately wrapped guides at four distinct angles to deliver exemplary performance. This is a one-piece Baitcasting rod that ensures exceptional sensitivity and lightweight comfort. With its Pure Power Transition feature, this rod offers consistent and flawless power transition throughout the bend. This means that the user is in better control of strong hooksets and challenging battles with larger fishes. Other features are: 30 ton sanded smooth carbon blank, comfortable to use EVA grips, and ergonomic durable reel seat made of graphite. The torrent series embodies high-end features for price ranges that are affordable to anyone.

Pros

  • Very high quality
  • Reasonable Price
  • Outperforms more expensive rods

Cons

  • May be hard to order if not around US

Our Take

The torrent series offers a cheap alternative for high-end features that are usually only found in rods that cost a lot. Upon opening the package, it is very evident that this particular rod is of high quality. The stainless steel guides make the price worth it in and of itself. With the titanium inserts, it is very suitable for anglers! On top of that, the sensitivity is pretty exceptional. When it comes to durability, this rod is also the best fit for big fishing because it does not break under pressure. This is a crucial feature if you want to have a rod that delivers performance for its price point. Despite its remarkable strength, this rod is still pretty flexible and easy to use. Piscifun never fails to make fishing accessible to many people, when it otherwise would have been just for the rich. I highly recommend these rods for those who are uncertain of buying it yet. It is also a great gift for friends who enjoy the sport as much as you do, considering the affordability and the quality it brings to the table. The best part is the lifetime limited warranty. You can bring them into any of the service centers any time if ever you need help with repairs or mere adjustments.

PENN Squall Level Wind Reel & Rod Fishing Combo

Kiwi Camp Dry Heavy Duty Water RepellentThis rod is specially designed for big game fishing in saltwater. It is made with a lightweight graphite frame, side plates, a main gear mostly composed of bronze, and a stainless pinion gear. The HT 100 carbon fiber material in its drag system makes powerful dragging possible without having to compromise smoothness. To eliminate rotor backplay, instant anti reverse bearing was added along with two stainless steel ball bearings. Up to 15 lbs can be dragged by this rod because of its durable, ultrasensitive, tubular glass bank construction. Additionally, it is lightweight and has high overall strength.

Pros

  • Lightweight
  • Cheap
  • Easy to setup

Cons

  • Warranty not specified

Our Take

The combo in this rod is extraordinary! It is pretty lightweight and easy to grip. Even under any adjustments, the performance does not change. It is true that upon dropping the line, you can roll it back into a spool effortlessly. I honestly expected it to break under a bigger fish, but I am glad to say that it did not. It can handle around 60lbs-80lbs mono. The rod is very sturdy yet sensitive at the same time. Just like other Penn products I have had in the past, this one exceeded my expectations as well, considering the price range it falls under. This rod is also very easy to set up, perfect even for beginners. It gives you more time to spend on the actual fishing than setting up. If there is anything this product may possibly improve, it’s the availability of a hole in the spindle of the reel so that it would be possible for you to attach your line. Although, for its price, I would consider it as money well spent. This would also be nice to purchase as a gift for people who would like to explore saltwater fishing. Overall, it has maintained the reputation of the Penn quality. I would highly put this out there for everyone who might need suggestions.

Made especially for saltwater fishing, this can be a reliable companion when you are sparring with that big fish you so badly want to catch. On top of that, the durable hardware it has makes it look pristine even after months of usage. It also comes with a bonus premium Okiaya rod cover for free.

Pros

  • Stout
  • Good for those who prefer shorter rods
  • Cheap

Cons

  • Occasionally has factory defects

Our Take

If your target catch is around 130lbs or even a little more, this rod suits you best! Though it is only 5.5’’ long, it is for sure a stout rod. It is also very durable and strong. The performance it has could be at par with other rods in the industry that are more expensive. In some of my experiences, even reeling that takes beyond 3 hours did not break this rod. For less than $70, this product is absolutely worth its price. The only problem you might have with this rod is if you prefer ones that are longer. In my own opinion, its structure is already perfect for the catch I am looking for. The shorter it is, the easier it is for me to control as an average-sized man. You also have to recheck if the pole guides were assembled correctly. Sometimes there might be some factory defects that misplace these parts, but I got the correct ones when I ordered one. Shall you have one, it is best to call their customer service hotline. Overall, I would recommend these for people who want stout and sturdy rods that are not very long. It does not last forever, but if you are able to take care of it well, it will serve you well for a vast amount of time.

Weighing only 18.03 oz and measuring 5’1” in height, this rod is lightweight while its line weight can reach up to 50 lbs.

Pros

  • Very affordable
  • Good customer service
  • Has warranty

Cons

  • Could have minor factory defects that need replacing

Our Take

I like this product after I put it to the test. Upon arrival, it came in its own pouch, which really surprised me because it is significantly cheaper as compared to other rods I have bought in the past. A few people have mentioned that its eyelets might not be right, but I did not have any issues with mine. It could just be occasional factory defects. The reel seat might not be very tight, but it can easily be remedied with a couple of zip ties. It is very sturdy, even if it is just 5 ft long. For the price I paid, I would say it performs reasonably well. The other rods in the market that offers these kinds of features would usually cost $20 more than this one. It is pretty considerable for a $50 budget. If ever you come across one that has factory defects, Fiblink would be very accommodating and glad to replace your item. On top of that, it also offers a one year warranty. They even guarantee a money-back offer if there are non-artificial damages upon arrival.

6

Okuma Cedros E-Glass Jigging Rods

Kiwi Camp Dry Heavy Duty Water RepellentThis Okuma Cedros rod is made of an E-glass blank that offers impressive pulling power. This is a beneficial feature because glass blanks offer shock reduction whenever one uses a braided line. Its reel seat is an Alps pyramid-shaped 2 tone anodized aluminum. This design is more ergonomic and lets the user take more control of the product. Its guide frames are Alps high-rise 316, which are made of stainless steel, with Zirconium guide inserts that lessen friction caused by braided lines. A limited lifetime warranty covers Cedros rods.

Pros

  • Lightweight
  • Durable

Cons

  • Unsecured packaging

Our Take

The first thing you will notice when the package arrives is that the packaging is not what I expected it to be. Considering the price, one could expect of a well packaged and safely guarded product inside. However, it seems to me that a little movement during the shipping could have damaged my order because it only came with cardboard and plastic. However, the rod still works pretty well! The rod is light and small, yet it can stand heavy weighing catches. It has features and components that would have cost twice as much if this were a different brand. It is 6’6” long, but I do not have a hard time using it because it is easy to grip. I still have full control of the entire rod, even if it is longer as compared to the ones I have tried before. I would say it is durable and well made overall. A lifetime repair warranty also helps a lot. I would recommend this to family and friends.

7

SHIMANO TREVALA Casting, Graphite Saltwater Jigging Casting Rod

Kiwi Camp Dry Heavy Duty Water RepellentThis Trevala Jigging rod is highly innovative and was designed to be used with the Butterfly Jigs also from Shimano, along with high speed and high power reels. The design of this new blank comes with a high carbon butt section merged with a TC4 tip. This makes the rod lighter and more sensitive. Diamond polished, these Fuji Aluminum Oxide guides are very smooth, and they provide durability. These guides also have a decreased line wear to ensure better corrosion resistance and heat dissipation. The grips are made of EVA foam that gives the user comfort while assuring a good hold despite the presence of water.

Pros

  • Durable
  • Ultra lightweight
  • Highly sensitive

Cons

  • No lifetime warranty service

Our Take

The rod is truly lightweight and very easy to use. It is precisely the way it is advertised, which impresses me. For a rod that can take on a catch that is beyond 100 lbs., I am surprised by how it is not as heavy as the previous jigging rods I had used before. Its sensitivity is also remarkable. The tip is pretty responsive to all the movements that occur in the bait. The rod also has a very reliable backbone. That is a crucial feature when targeting 100 lbs. because you will naturally have to fight with your catch before it turns out successful. Trevala is a good brand, and so far this product still delivers the same quality if not more! I really enjoy using this rod, especially when fishing for Tuna. I would highly recommend this as a gift because it is pretty much worth more than what you paid for. It has never snapped on me despite my heavy weighing catches. I wish they would offer free lifetime repair services so that the rod could be used for so much longer. Worth a try!
