About Shubert Lake

The 794 hectare natural lake is a large block of ice left behind by the melting of glaciers thousands of years ago. It is located in the Red Cedars region of Chicago, Illinois, USA, and has played a prominent role in Chicago - area history. The lake was originally called Lake Red - cedar because of the large number of trees that line its banks. Today, it is home to Gary and Chicago commuters who love living, boating and fishing.

The Zedernsee community has almost 10,000 inhabitants, and the residential development is becoming more and more upscale. The coast is highly developed and is delimited from the coast, but fishing, boating and golf are the main activities at Lake Cedar. A local yacht club is the center of the community activities, as is the Cedar - Lake Country Club.

Thousands of children have fond memories of Lake Cedar when they visited the church-sponsored camp on the west bank. There is a large shallow lake, but it is preferred for fishing, boating, swimming and other recreational activities such as kayaking, canoeing and swimming in the lake.

The camp also finances a religious retreat for adults and offers a small public campsite for camper services. Here you can enjoy outdoor activities such as camping, fishing, kayaking, canoeing, swimming and other leisure activities. Other visitors can use the many apartments on the shore and camp on the campsites on the west shore of the lake.

The marina on the northwest shore of Lake Cedar rents pontoons, jet skis and other boats and also sells a variety of boats, such as kayaks, canoes, pedal boats and even a small fishing boat. The yacht club teaches sailing and regularly conducts regattas around the lake and a number of other events.

Fishing is very popular in the Cedar Lake, with large kratties being the main attraction, but other sport fish are the illegally planted whitefish, such as redfish.

The main outflow of Cedar Lake is Cedar Creek, which runs from the east side of the lake to the west side and then to Lake Michigan. Add your photos to our Facebook page for more information about Lake Cedar, Indiana and its attractions.

Less than a mile east of the lake, Lemon Lake County Park is open to the public, and the city park on the east side of the lake offers a variety of outdoor activities including swimming, boating, canoeing, kayaking and fishing. The park also has a Disk Golf Championship Course, where the World Professional Disk Golf Tournament will be held in July 2010. During the season, the Lemon Lake offers an outdoor swimming pool, picnic area, picnic tables and a water park.

Cedar Lake has become a popular hunting and fishing destination in recent years as Chicago has become a business center, and Cedar Lake, with its proximity to the Chicago River and the shores of Lake Michigan, has also become a popular hunting and fishing destination, especially during the summer months.

The Indian population was pushed further west in the 1850s, the lake was increasingly used for hunting and fishing, and huts were built to accommodate the European hunters who shared the wildlife trails with the local pottawatomy. Only when the railway was built through the area did hundreds of visitors come to stay at many of the resort hotels, enjoy steam boat rides around the lakes, swim and enjoy the beaches. There are over 50 resorts on and around the lake, many more are on the way, as well as a large number of hotels and restaurants.

Several ballrooms and gazebos line the waterfront, such as Midway Gardens and Lassen Pavillon, which feature nationally known bands to entertain residents and visitors to the area. Monan Railroad brought train loads from Chicago and other parts of the state into the lake and once brought thousands of employees from Marshall Field stores in Chicago for picnics and family outings. Regular visitors began to build small summer huts and built parks around the lakes next to railway lines.

In winter, the ice industry employed residents and migrant workers who traveled by train from Chicago to cut large blocks of ice from the lake. Ice cream was sent to Chicago to be sold at Marshall Field stores in Chicago and other local stores.

In the summer, workers from the south came to work in Gary's steel mills, often turning tiny huts into year-round homes. Smaller houses were often demolished and larger houses rebuilt on the site, but not always in the same style as their predecessors.

The Museum of the Red Cedars on the Lake, located in one of the old resort hotels, shows many pictures and artifacts that describe life on the lake in detail over the last 150 years. Cedar Lake was finally recognized as a city in 1967, and several new condominiums and townhouses were built. The resort business has faded, replaced by a mix of residential and commercial buildings, as well as some hotels and restaurants. Still, it is growing, with a population of about 1,000 and an annual income of $1.5 million.

Property values are holding up the area, and many residents are renting out their homes for the holidays. Most include a boat and directions to the nearest boat rental, which takes away some of the comfort from visitors. The area remains a popular destination for boating, fishing, camping and other recreational activities, as well as for recreation.

Hotel accommodation is available in the immediate vicinity, but not directly on the lake. Not far away, the landscape of Lake Cedar offers several bed and breakfasts and hotel accommodation at Lake of the Lakes Resort. Finding an apartment in Cedar Lake is not difficult, so it's a good choice for those on a budget, but also for those who need a break from the city.

We will soon be buying a condo with lake views, so come and enjoy the sunset over Lake Cedar with us or come back later in the day for a day trip to Lake of the Lakes.
